What is Travel Insurance?

  • Updated

Travel insurance is a type of cover that may help with unexpected costs if something happens before you travel or while you are away.

What you are covered for depends on your level of cover, the policy terms, and any options shown on your policy schedule.

What travel insurance may cover

  • Emergency medical treatment abroad and other emergency medical expenses.
  • Repatriation (medical transport home), where it is medically necessary and arranged or authorised under your policy assistance service.
  • Cancellation or cutting your trip short for a covered reason, if those sections are included on your policy.
  • Lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed personal belongings, on some levels of cover (limits and conditions apply).
  • Travel disruption such as travel delay and abandonment, on some levels of cover.

What to check before you travel
Your policy schedule to confirm what is included in your level of cover and any options you have selected.

Any exclusions and conditions that apply to the section you may need to claim under.

If you have pre existing medical conditions, claims linked to them are only covered if you disclosed them and we accepted them in writing.
