Do I need cover for UK trips?

  • Updated

Travel insurance can help with unexpected costs on a UK break, what’s covered depends on your level of cover and the policy terms.

What you should know

  • UK-only trips need pre-booked accommodation
    • Your policy is only valid for trips within your home country if you have pre-booked accommodation.
  • Your trip must meet the travel rules
    • Trips must start and end the UK.
  • Cover varies by Policy
    • Some Policies focus on emergency medical treatment, repatriation and personal accident.
    • Other levels may also include cancellation, cutting your trip short and personal belongings, but this depends on what you bought.

 Check if you’re covered

  • If you haven’t arranged pre-booked accommodation: your policy won’t be valid for UK-only trips.
  • If you have a more basic level of cover: you may not be covered for things like cancellation, travel delays, or loss/damage to belongings.
  • If you bought a policy that excludes cancellation cover: you won’t be covered for cancellation. Other parts of your cover may still apply — check your policy schedule to confirm what’s included.
