I want to stay abroad for longer can you still cover me?

  • Updated

Often, yes, but it depends on your policy type, age, destination and how long you want to be away.
If you already know you’ll need longer, it’s best to contact us as soon as possible so we can check your options.

Single Trip policies

  • Your cover may not apply if your trip is scheduled to last longer than the number of days shown on your policy schedule.
  • If unexpected events beyond your control (that are covered by the policy) prevent you finishing your trip within the insured period, cover may be extended for up to 30 days at no extra charge, as long as you return as soon as possible.

Annual Multi-Trip policies

Maximum trip length per trip

  • USA, Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean
    • Age 0–70: up to 45 days
    • Age 71+: up to 35 days
  • Anywhere else (any age): up to 45 days

Total travel days per policy year

  • The maximum total number of travel days across the policy year is 183 days.

Optional extended stay (where available)

  • On Gold, Gold Plus and Platinum Annual Multi-Trip policies, you may be able to extend the maximum trip length to 50 or 55 days for an extra premium.
  • If you’re aged 71+, extending to 50 or 55 days will not be available for travel to the USA, Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean.
