What is Annual Travel Insurance?

  • Updated

Annual multi-trip travel insurance can cover you for more than one trip during your policy year, instead of needing a new policy for each holiday,  as long as each trip stays within the trip limits and you don’t go over the total travel days allowed.

What you should know

  • One policy, multiple trips: You’re insured for multiple trips during your policy term (not just one holiday).
  • Trip length matters: You’re not covered for any part of a trip that is scheduled to last longer than the maximum trip length allowed.
  • Total travel days are capped: Across all trips, you can be covered for up to 183 days in a policy year.
  • Your trip must start and end at home: Cover can’t begin after you’ve left your home country.
  • If you’re delayed returning home: If something unexpected happens that’s covered by the policy and you can’t finish your holiday on time, cover may be extended for up to 30 days at no extra charge (as long as you return as soon as possible).

How trip limits work

Maximum length of each trip (standard)

  • Up to 45 days per trip
  • If you’re aged 71+ and travelling to the USA, Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean: up to 35 days per trip

Maximum total travel days (across the year)

  • Up to 183 days in total across all trips in the policy year

Can I extend the maximum trip length?
On some annual multi-trip policies, you may be able to increase your trip limit to 50 or 55 days by paying an extra premium. Whether you can add this depends on your age and destination

If it depends

  • If you’re aged 70 or under: if the trip-length extension is available on your policy, you can extend to 50 or 55 days for travel to any destination.
  • If you’re aged 71 or over: if the trip-length extension is available on your policy, you can extend to 50 or 55 days when travelling anywhere except the USA, Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean.
