Listed causes include scheduled public transport failure due to poor weather, strike or industrial action, vehicle accidents or breakdowns. This does not include running out of petrol, oil or water, or having a flat tyre, puncture or flat battery. Supporting evidence is required. Limits are up to £750 for Gold/Gold Plus and £850 for Platinum, with Nil excess.

When missed departure can apply
Missed departure can apply if you cannot reach the departure point for any part of your outward or final return journey, where that journey is due to start within 36 hours of the scheduled departure date and time.
The reason must be one of the following:
Scheduled public transport fails because of poor weather, a strike or industrial action.
The vehicle you are travelling in has an accident or breaks down.
Another vehicle ahead of you on the road has an accident or breaks down, causing an unexpected delay to the vehicle you are travelling in.
For your own vehicle, the policy does not include running out of petrol, oil or water, or having a flat tyre, puncture or flat battery.
What costs can be included
Missed departure can include necessary extra:
- Accommodation costs, for room only.
Travel costs. - Food, drink and telephone costs are not included under the room-only accommodation wording.
Missed departure does not include:
- Anything listed in the General exclusions. General conditions also apply.
- Claims where you did not allow enough time to meet the check-in time given by the transport provider or agent.
- Claims where you were not travelling directly to the departure point.
- Claims involving public transport delay where you do not get a letter from the public transport provider confirming the service did not run on time.
- Claims involving a major motorway accident where you do not get confirmation from the police or motoring authorities.
- Claims involving an accident or breakdown of the vehicle you were travelling in where you do not provide a professional repairer’s report.
What evidence may be needed
- For missed departure, keep evidence that supports the reason for the delay.
This may include:
- A letter from the public transport provider confirming the service did not run on time.
- Confirmation from the police or motoring authorities for a major motorway accident.
- A professional repairer’s report if the vehicle you were travelling in had an accident or broke down.
