Before you travel, please check that:
- Your declared medical conditions are correct.
- You have told AllClear about any change in your health or medication.
- Your destination region is correct.
- Any activities you plan to do are listed and meet the policy conditions.
- Any optional cover you need is shown on your policy schedule.
- You are fit to travel and have followed medical advice.
General exclusions from your policy
The policy excludes claims resulting from, or relating to:
Known events
Events announced in the UK on television, in news bulletins, in the media, or circumstances you were aware of when buying the policy or booking a trip.
Known medical conditions affecting other people
Cancellation or cutting short a trip because of a medical condition you knew about when buying the policy or booking a trip, where that condition affects:
An immediate relative who is not travelling and is not insured under your policy, except where the policy’s non-travelling relatives wording applies.
• Someone travelling with you who is not insured under your policy.
• A close business associate.
• A person you planned to stay with on your trip.Other insurance, recoverable costs or refused alternatives
Claims for:
• Property that is more specifically insured elsewhere.
• Costs recoverable from another source, such as a tour operator, holiday company or credit card provider.
• Losses caused because you refused a reasonable alternative from an accommodation provider, transport carrier or other service provider.Undisclosed medical conditions
Any medical condition you have not disclosed as required by the medical health disclosure requirements.
Not following medical advice
Claims linked to:
• Deliberately not taking recommended treatment or prescribed medication.
• Not following the advice of a medical practitioner or Zurich Assist.
• Travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner or Zurich Assist.Drinking too much alcohol
Claims linked to drinking too much alcohol, where this is evidenced by:
• A medical practitioner saying alcohol caused or contributed to the injury or illness.
• A blood alcohol test result over 0.19%.
• A third-party witness report stating your faculties or judgement were notably impaired.
• Your own admission or description of events.Alcohol abuse or dependency
Claims linked to alcohol abuse or alcohol dependency, as shown by medical records or medical opinion. This exclusion does not apply where the claim relates directly to a declared medical condition accepted by AllClear in writing, the appropriate additional premium has been paid, and you have not consumed alcohol against GP advice.
Substance or drug misuse
Claims linked to substance abuse, drug abuse, or taking illegal drugs or substances. This includes over-the-counter, prescription or other drugs.
Compulsory psychiatric detention after not taking medication
Claims linked to being compulsorily detained as a psychiatric patient because you did not take prescribed medication for a preexisting medical condition. This applies whether or not an additional premium was paid for that preexisting medical condition.
Suicide, attempted suicide or deliberate risk-taking
Claims linked to suicide, attempted suicide, or deliberate actions that put you at risk of death, injury, illness or disability. This includes balcony jumping or climbing, and jumping or diving from piers, walls, buildings or cliffs, unless you were trying to save human life or your life was in danger.
Unlawful actions
Claims linked to unlawful actions or criminal proceedings brought under the authority of customs or government in any country.
Business trips
Claims linked to business trips.
Manual work
Claims linked to manual work of any kind, unless it is voluntary charity or conservation work listed under the policy’s sporting and adventure activities.
Professional or unlisted sports and activities
Claims linked to:
• Professional entertaining, sporting or adventure activities.
• Amateur sporting or adventure activities unless listed in the policy wording.
• Racing, speed or endurance tests.Certain air travel and scuba diving timing
Claims linked to:
• Air travel unless you are a fare-paying passenger on a regular scheduled airline or licensed charter aircraft.
• Air travel within 24 hours of scuba diving.Certain travel provider failures
Claims linked to a tour operator, travel agent, accommodation provider, transport carrier or other service provider being unable or unwilling to fulfil their duty because of bankruptcy, liquidation, error, omission or default. The policy wording states an exception for scheduled airline failure cover.
Driving, motorcycles and seatbelts
Claims linked to:
• Driving a car or motorcycle without the equivalent appropriate valid UK licence for that category.
• Driving or riding a motorcycle without wearing a crash helmet.
• Travelling in a vehicle without wearing a seatbelt where one is available.Other losses connected to the same event
Any other loss related to the event you are claiming for, unless the policy specifically provides cover for that loss.
Normal travel costs
Any payment you would normally have made during your travels if nothing had gone wrong.
Winter sports without the required cover
Claims linked to winter sports unless the activity is listed in the policy wording and the appropriate additional premium has been paid.
Natural disasters without the required cover
Claims linked to a natural disaster unless this cover is listed on your policy schedule and the appropriate premium has been paid.
Cruises without the required cover
Claims linked to a cruise unless cruise cover applies to your policy and is shown in your policy documents.
Denied boarding because of behaviour or fitness to travel
Claims linked to being denied boarding on a flight, train, sea vessel, coach or bus because of abusive behaviour or because the carrier considers you unfit to travel.
One-way trips or trips that are too long
Any part of a trip that is a one-way journey, or scheduled to last longer than the number of days shown on your policy schedule for single trip policies, or longer than the maximum trip length allowed for your level of cover for annual multi-trip policies.
Reward points, timeshare or similar schemes
Costs paid using reward scheme points, timeshare, holiday property bond or similar points schemes. This includes exchange fees, property maintenance costs or fees.
Vaccinations and preventative treatment
Claims linked to not getting required vaccinations or not undertaking recommended preventative treatment, unless you were medically unable to do so.
Medical epidemics or pandemics
Claims linked to a medical epidemic or pandemic, except for the Coronavirus cover described in the policy wording.
Coronavirus outside the stated conditions
Claims linked to Coronavirus, unless the policy’s Coronavirus conditions are met. These include:
• Being up to date with Coronavirus vaccinations as recommended by the UK NHS, or being medically unable to have them as shown by medical records.
• Travelling to a country or area where the FCDO or WHO are not advising against all or all but essential travel due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
• The claim arising under the specific Coronavirus situations described in the policy wording, such as certain cancellation, cutting short, medical treatment or trip extension situations.
• No other cover applying for claims caused by or related to Coronavirus.War, hostilities or civil unrest
Claims linked to war, hostilities, civil unrest or any similar event.
Terrorism
Claims linked to terrorism. The policy wording describes terrorism as acts or threats of force or violence carried out for political, religious, ideological or similar purposes, including influencing a government or the public, or creating fear.
The terrorism exclusion does not apply to Personal Accident, Medical Emergency Expenses, Repatriation and Associated Expenses, or Medical Inconvenience Benefit. However, the terrorism exclusion applies to all sections if nuclear, chemical or biological weapons, devices or agents are used.Cyber terrorism
Claims linked to cyber terrorism.
Costs for people not insured on the policy
Travel, accommodation, excursion or other costs for anyone not insured on your policy, even if you paid those costs for them.
Currency exchange or fluctuations
Claims linked to currency exchanges or currency fluctuations.
Search and rescue costs
Any search and rescue costs.
Taking part in a league or competition
Claims linked to taking part in a league or competition.
Radiation or nuclear contamination
Claims linked to ionising radiation, radioactive contamination from nuclear fuel or waste, or the radioactive, toxic, explosive or other dangerous properties of explosive nuclear equipment.
Pressure waves
Claims linked to pressure waves caused by aircraft or other aerial devices travelling at sonic or supersonic speeds.
Travelling without a required carer
Trips where you usually need a carer to help with daily activities, but do not travel with a carer who can support you throughout the trip and does not need a carer themselves.
