What should I do if my passport is lost or stolen while I’m away?

What can be included

Depending on your policy level, passport and travel document claims can include:

The policy wording lists possible costs such as reasonable travel and accommodation costs to get a replacement passport or visa, replacement passport fees while abroad, and reasonable additional public transport costs if you cannot make your pre-booked return flight within 24 hours of the scheduled departure.

It can also include the pro-rata value of the original passport and replacement costs for travel tickets, Green Cards, visas, prepaid accommodation vouchers, prepaid car-hire vouchers and prepaid excursion vouchers.


Before you claim

Your passport or travel documents must have been:

  • stored in a locked safety deposit box, locked safe or locked accommodation;
  • left in the care of your accommodation provider; or
  • carried on your person.

If your passport is stolen, report it to the necessary authorities and keep the written report.


How to claim

  1. Report the passport loss, theft or damage to the consular representative within 24 hours.
  2. Ask for written confirmation from the consular representative or police.
  3. Keep receipts and evidence for replacement passport, travel document, travel, transport or accommodation costs.
  4. Submit your claim online at www.submit-claim.com/allclear when you return.
  5. Have your policy documents, booking confirmation, original travel receipts and any other evidence requested on the claim form.
