When personal accident cover can apply

The accident must be the sole cause of one of the following outcomes, subject to the policy’s 12-month assessment requirements:

  • Death
  • Permanent total disablement
  • Permanent loss of a limb
  • Total and irrecoverable loss of sight

Permanent total disablement

Permanent total disablement means that the accident prevents you from working in any occupation for which you are qualified.

The disablement must:

  • Last for at least 12 months
  • Not be expected to improve

Loss of a limb

Loss of a limb means:

  • Permanent severance of an entire hand or foot; or
  • Total and permanent loss of use of an entire hand or foot

Loss of sight

Loss of sight means total and irrecoverable loss of sight.

The policy contains separate medical criteria for loss of sight in one eye and loss of sight in both eyes.

When personal accident cover does not apply

Personal accident cover does not apply when death, loss or disablement is caused directly or indirectly by:

  • Sickness or disease
  • A physical or mental condition that gradually worsens
  • An injury that existed before the trip began
  • A sporting or adventure activity for which personal accident cover is specifically excluded
  • Anything covered by the policy’s general exclusions

All other policy conditions and exclusions also apply.
