When the benefit may apply
The benefit may apply if you or another insured person must return home early because of:
- Death
- Severe injury
- Serious illness
- Complications of pregnancy or childbirth
The travel or accommodation must have been:
- Paid for before you left your home country
- Unused because the trip was cut short
- Part of your own share of the booking
What to do before returning home
Contact Zurich Assist immediately if a serious injury, illness or hospital admission means repatriation may be needed.
Before cutting your trip short:
- Contact Zurich Assist and explain the medical situation.
- Obtain permission before making arrangements to return home early.
- Ask the attending medical practitioner abroad for a medical certificate.
- Keep evidence of your unused travel and accommodation costs.
- Tell us within 30 days of your trip ending about any incident that may result in a claim.
Do not arrange additional travel without approval.
The benefit described here covers eligible unused, prepaid travel and accommodation costs. It does not automatically cover additional travel arrangements.
When the benefit does not apply
The benefit does not apply when:
- You do not return to your home country earlier than planned
- Zurich Assist does not confirm that cutting the trip short is medically necessary
- You do not obtain the required medical certificate
- Childbirth occurs during or after the 32nd week of a single pregnancy
- Childbirth occurs during or after the 24th week of a multiple pregnancy
- The claim arises from a medical epidemic or pandemic
- A general exclusion or other policy condition applies
