Examples of key policy terms

Accident

A sudden and unexpected event caused by external and visible means at an identifiable time.

Cutting your trip short

Returning early to your home in the United Kingdom.

Excess

The first part of an eligible claim that you must pay.

The excess can vary depending on the policy section and the cover you selected.

Fit to travel

Being reasonably expected to complete your trip without needing medical assistance or treatment.

This takes into account:

  • Your health
  • Your destination
  • The length of your trip
  • Your planned activities
  • Your method of travel

Home

Your residential address in the United Kingdom.

Home country

The United Kingdom if your home is there, or the Isle of Man or Channel Islands if your home is on one of those islands.

Insured person, you or your

Each person travelling on the trip who is named on the policy schedule.

Immediate relative

The policy lists specific family relationships, including:

  • Parents and partners
  • Children
  • Grandparents and grandchildren
  • In-laws
  • Step-relatives
  • Legal guardians

Medical practitioner

A registered and practising medical professional who is not related to you or to anyone you are travelling or staying with.

Pre-existing medical condition

A disease, illness or injury that falls within the policy’s medical health disclosure requirements.

Trip

A holiday or leisure journey during the period of cover that begins and ends in your home country.

Unattended

Property that is not in your full view, or where you cannot prevent it from being taken, unless it is secured as described in the policy.
