Travel insurance may still provide cover for trips to France, but what is covered depends on your policy, when events happened and the current FCDO travel advice.
What this article helps you do
This article explains what the disruption in France could mean if you are buying a new policy or already have AllClear Travel Insurance.
Applies to
- AllClear Silver, Gold, Gold Plus and Platinum policies
- Customers travelling or planning to travel to France
- Cover remains subject to your policy terms, conditions and exclusions
What you need to know about the disruption in France
- Check the latest FCDO advice for the part of France you are travelling to.
- Silver does not include cancellation or travel-delay cover.
- Gold, Gold Plus and Platinum include cancellation and travel-delay sections, but this does not mean every disruption caused by protests or civil unrest is covered.
- If the FCDO advises against all travel or all but essential travel, different restrictions may apply.
- Claims connected with the reason for an FCDO travel warning may not be covered in some circumstances.
I’m looking to buy travel insurance for France. Can I get cover?
You may be able to buy an AllClear policy for a trip to France, subject to your eligibility requirements.
However, taking out a policy does not automatically mean disruption connected with existing protests or civil unrest will be covered.
If the FCDO advises against all travel or all but essential travel to your destination, cover may be limited and claims related to the reason for that advice may not be covered.
What about delays?
Silver does not cover travel delays.
Gold, Gold Plus and Platinum include travel-delay cover. Whether a particular delay caused by disruption in France meets the policy conditions depends on the circumstances and the cause of the delay.
Do not assume a delay is covered simply because protests have affected your journey.
I already have a policy. What am I covered for?
Your cover depends on your policy level and when the disruption or any change in FCDO advice occurred.
For Gold, Gold Plus and Platinum, the policy includes cancellation and cutting-your-trip-short cover, subject to the relevant conditions and exclusions.
Silver does not provide cancellation or travel-delay cover.
If the FCDO changes its advice after you bought your policy or booked your trip, the reason for that change matters. Changes linked to civil unrest are not treated in the same way as every other change in FCDO advice, so cover will depend on the circumstances.
Can I change my travel dates?
If you want to move your trip, contact AllClear before making changes so your policy details and available options can be checked.
