If you’ve added Winter Sports to your policy (and it’s shown on your policy schedule), these are the activities classed as winter sports under the add-on.

Activities included

  • Cross-country skiing (on recognised paths)
  • Dry skiing
  • Inner tubing (in snow)
  • Mono skiing (on snow)
  • Off piste skiing
  • Skiing
  • Sledging / husky sledging (driving or as a passenger)
  • Sleigh rides
  • Snow boarding

  • Snow shoeing
  • Tobogganing

What you should know

  • You only have Winter Sports cover if you’ve paid the extra premium and it’s shown on your policy schedule.
  • If an activity isn’t on the list above, it isn’t covered under the Winter Sports add-on.

If it depends

  • Single trip policies: if you’ve added Winter Sports, it can apply for the whole trip.
  • Annual multi-trip policies: Winter Sports cover applies for up to 17 days of winter sports activity in total across your policy year, if you’ve added the Winter Sports add-on.

Additional cover benefits of Winter Sports cover

If you’ve added Winter Sports to your policy (and it’s shown on your policy schedule), it can add the extra benefits below.

Limits and conditions apply and the amount of cover doesn't change based on your policy.

  1. Ski equipment (your own or hired)
    • Lost, stolen or damaged ski equipment: up to £500 in total (after wear and tear and depreciation).
    • Single item limit: £200.
    • “Ski equipment” includes: skis (with bindings), ski boots, ski poles and snowboards.
  2. Lift pass (if lost or stolen)
    • Unused portion of your lift pass: up to £500 (based on its value at the time it was lost or stolen).
  3. Replacement ski hire (after loss/theft/damage of your own equipment)
    • Replacement ski hire: £10 per day, up to £150 total, towards hiring replacement ski equipment.
  4. Delayed ski equipment (outward journey)
    • Delayed ski equipment: up to £150 towards the cost of hiring replacement ski equipment if your ski equipment is delayed for at least 12 hours on the outward journey (you’ll need a written report and receipts).
  5. Ski pack
    • Up to £400 for the unused portion of pre-paid ski pack costs if:
      • you don’t cut your trip short, and
      • a medical practitioner in the resort certifies you’re unable to ski/use the ski pack facilities due to a serious injury or illness during the trip, and
      • there’s confirmation no refund is available.
  6. Piste closure (lack of snow)

This benefit only applies in these seasons:

    • 1 December to 15 April (Northern hemisphere), or
    • 1 May to 30 September (Southern hemisphere).

If a lack of snow means your resort closes and you can’t ski, it can pay:

  • £35 per day towards travelling to another resort, or
  • £35 for each full day you’re unable to ski, up to £350 in total, if your resort remains closed and no other resort is available.

Policy Excesses:

Although the level of cover doesn't change by policy (not available for Silver), the excess for these optional upgrades depends on the level of cover you have chosen (Gold or Gold Plus £75,Platinum Nil) and will be as shown under the relevant level of cover in the summary of cover on pages 8-9
