What is a natural disaster?

  • Updated

A natural disaster is defined in the policy as one of the following events happening after you buy the insurance, in the area where your trip accommodation is located, that damages local transport infrastructure and/or the accommodation so access or availability is no longer possible or can’t be guaranteed.

What you need to know

  • Events included: Wildfire, earthquake, tsunami, volcanic eruption, landslide, avalanche, cyclone, typhoon and/or tornado.
  • When the event must happen: The event must occur after this insurance was purchased.
  • Where it must happen: It must occur in the area where the accommodation you’re due to stay in during your trip is situated.
  • How it must affect your trip: It must damage local transport infrastructure and/or the accommodation so access/availability is no longer possible or can’t be guaranteed.

Policy differences

  • Gold / Gold Plus / Platinum: This is the definition used for Section 12 (Natural disaster cover).
  • Silver: Silver doesn’t include Natural Disaster cover (and doesn’t cover delays to travel).

Eligibility, terms and exclusions apply. Please refer to your policy documents for full details.
