What is an Excess?

  • Updated

An excess is the first part of a claim that you pay yourself. It’s taken off (deducted from) the amount paid for a claim.

Policy breakdown

  • Silver: The excess applies per insured person, per claim. If you claim under more than one section for the same event, you can pay up to two excesses per person (the highest excesses that apply).
  • Gold / Gold Plus / Platinum: The excess applies per insured person, per claim except for Section 8 (Personal Liability), where the excess applies per policy. If you claim under more than one section for the same event, you can pay up to two excesses per person (the highest excesses that apply).

Where to find your excess amount: Your policy documents (including your schedule) show your chosen level of excess.
