Can I come home early if a family member dies?

  • Updated

It depends on your policy. With Gold, Gold Plus or Platinum, you may be able to claim if you need to cut your trip short and return home early due to the death of an immediate relative. Silver is more limited.

Cutting your trip short: means returning early to your home in the United Kingdom.

For Gold/Gold Plus/Platinum policies
  • This section may cover unused, pre-paid travel and accommodation costs if you curtail your trip because an immediate relative who lives in your home country dies.
  • If the death relates to a pre-existing medical condition of a non-travelling relative that you were aware of when you booked your trip or bought the policy, special terms apply. Their doctor must confirm that, at the time of booking, there was no substantial likelihood the condition would worsen to this extent.
  • You must return to the UK earlier than planned, and AllClear’s assistance team must agree that cutting your trip short is necessary for an insured reason.

For Silver policies

“Cutting your trip short” cover only applies if you or someone insured on the policy dies, becomes seriously ill, or is severely injured. It does not extend to non-travelling relatives.
