What is extended missed departure cover?

  • Updated

Extended missed departure cover is part of Section 12 (Natural disaster cover). If you’ve added Natural Disaster cover to your policy as an optional upgrade, it can help pay for extra accommodation (room only) and necessary travel costs when a natural disaster disrupts your booked public transport.

Please note: Missed Departure Cover and Natural Disaster Cover are not included with Silver policies.

  • What it can pay for: Up to £500 towards suitable additional accommodation (room only) and travel expenses necessarily incurred to reach your overseas destination and/or return to the United Kingdom.
  • When it may apply: Your booked public transport is cancelled, delayed for more than 12 hours, diverted, or re-directed after take-off; there’s a failure of other scheduled public transport; or you’re involuntarily denied boarding (overbooking) and no suitable alternative is available within 12 hours.
  • How the payout is worked out: Any refund on your ticket(s), plus any compensation from the public transport operator, is deducted from the amount payable.
  • Important: You can only claim under Section 12A (Extended delayed departure cover) or Section 12B (Extended missed departure cover) for the same event (not both).
